My Experience With SiteGround
SiteGround was the first host I ever used for an affiliate site. Back in 2019, I launched my first technology review site on their GrowBig plan and stayed for about 18 months before the site outgrew it.
That 18-month window was genuinely positive. SiteGround's setup process is the easiest I've seen — WordPress installs in one click, their support team actually knows what they're talking about, and the performance for a shared host was better than I expected. Pages loaded in around 1.5 seconds on mobile, which was acceptable for a new site with minimal traffic.
The reason I left had nothing to do with performance — it was the renewal price. I'd signed up at a promotional rate and when the year ended, my bill jumped from around $7/month to $30/month for the same GrowBig plan. The 420ms TTFB is the slowest of the four hosts I've reviewed, but it's still well within acceptable range for SEO purposes. Where SiteGround genuinely struggles is under traffic spikes — on shared hosting, a sudden influx of visitors can cause response times to spike significantly. For a new site with predictable, growing traffic, this rarely matters. For a site that might go viral, it's a real risk.

My recommendation: If you're going to use SiteGround, sign up for GrowBig (for the staging) and plan to migrate to Cloudways or WP Engine when the renewal comes up. You get a great first year at low cost and move on before paying premium prices for shared hosting performance.

This is where SiteGround earns its reputation. In my time on the platform, I found their support to be consistently better than most hosts at similar price points.
Average live chat wait time in my experience: under 3 minutes. The agents actually understood WordPress — I've had SiteGround support help me debug caching conflicts, fix broken redirects, and explain PHP configuration in plain English. That's rare at entry-level pricing.
